(a weekly e-letter to Sunnyside Wesleyan Church’s Downtown Congregation)
“In him we live and move and have our being.”
well hi there. are you a baseball fan? if yes, you’ll know that yesterday was one of the most hilarious nights in the entire history of septembers. if no, congratulations on not being invested in a sport that shouldn’t really be as popular as it is. i use the term ‘sport’ loosely. my theory is that if you’re not wearing a mouth guard, you’re not playing a legitimate sport. seriously though, if you’re a boston red sox fan and you need someone to talk to, i’m here. i’ll try my best not to laugh. if you’re not sure what i’m talking about and want to know why it’s funny, i’m going to help you out the only way i know how to as a math major. with graph humour.
by the way, remember that time i asked you if you make muffins? turns out the reason why i wanted them fell through, but thanks for the response. we have a lot of muffin makers in our midst.
do you like to play board games? of course you do. who doesn’t love the thrill of putting up your first house on baltic avenue? who can resist the dice inside the bubble of trouble? what kind of person turns down a chance to settle in catan? well good news: nicole davey is looking to start up a board games group downtown. every other week we’ll be gathering on the ottawa u campus (most likely the agora space) and busting out some games of board. what a great opportunity to show everyone what a good loser you are! it’s also a great opportunity to get to know each other, build community, be present downtown throughout the week, invite others around us into the fun, and accuse professors of murder.
“in the lecture hall. with a lecture.”
for more information, contact me (email@example.com) and I’ll get you in touch with nicole davey. times and day of the week is not quite set yet, so if you have a preference get that to me too. we hope to see you there with your favourite hasbro in hand.
it’s hard for me to believe that september is almost over. it’s been quite a month, and i seem to be saying this at the end of each, but i’m really excited about what next month is going to bring. including fall weather, i hope. every time the skies hint at a nice cool fall day, the sun has to come bake the summer back into my skin. i know everyone else is a fan of their 35 degree heat, but i’m comfortable at about 10 or 13. pastor gina agrees with me, so i’m not alone. speaking of pastor gina, she’s going to be speaking downtown on thanksgiving sunday! i’m pretty excited about that. this coming sunday, being not thanksgiving sunday, we have pastor brent downtown. while i lead worship on air guitar.
i hope God richly blesses you in what’s left of this week, this month and this year. you’re always on my heart. i can’t wait to see you on sunday.
