Kerry has a heart for servant leadership. Her passionate desire, reflected in her MA thesis, is to see the church live the self-emptying way of Jesus in relation to contemporary Western secular culture.
Kerry took on leadership of the Sunnyside pastoral team in July 2018. She holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing science (McMaster University), a certificate from the Arrow Leadership Program, a B.Th. and an MA in theology (Saint Paul University).
Her work life has been varied, but always rooted in giving and service to the community. She has worked as a pediatric RN in Toronto and Ottawa children’s hospitals, conducted community research and promoted ecumenical relationships as associate director for Love Ottawa (2012), and engaged in more than a decade of lay and, since 2006, ordained pastoral ministry.
Kerry’s greatest joys include knowing her husband and adult children, time spent with youth through her work in adolescent mental health, building bridges between Jesus Christ and society, cycling, studying theology and psychology, watching movies, reading mysteries and historical fiction, talking and laughing with dear friends.
Darren is Associate Pastor and hails from Newfoundland, “the place where land, sky and water embrace like old friends.” He came to Ottawa in his teens and made Sunnyside his church home after beginning studies at Carleton University. While there he met and ultimately married his wife, Joy, and together they have three adult children.
Ever a man of persistent effort and determination, Darren has been on staff at Sunnyside for twenty-five years. He’s served in numerous roles and his primary responsibilities are currently worship, pastoral care, small groups and men’s ministry.
Darren is eager to acknowledge God’s faithfulness in his life and that of our church over the past quarter century. He’s looking forward to how He will continue to move in our community as we seek to experience, embody and express His amazing love to one another.
It has been said that "Children are the hands by which we take hold of heaven." Miranda serves as Sunnyside’s Children’s Pastor and fulfills this adage in all that she does for our precious kids.
Miranda was raised in rural Ottawa where her family had moved to when she was 2 years old. It was after attending Clubhouse, a mid-week kids’ program at her church that she chose to follow Jesus.
After sensing God’s call to ministry in the summer of 2003 she began studying at Kingswood University where she received her BA in Christian Education in 2009. She served as a Children’s Pastor in Fredericton for two years before God brought her family to Sunnyside where she has served as the children’s pastor since 2011.
Her passion in ministry is to create intergenerational worship experiences and family-focused worship opportunities, believing deeply that a child’s faith is best nurtured in the context of family and community.
As Sunnyside’s tower of power, Pastor Matt stands at the intersection of faithfulness and fun, directing youth to a path where they can explore and experience Jesus’s love for them in a faithful, authentic, clear, and engaging way.
Matt joined the Sunnyside pastoral team in August 2018. He holds a B.A. in Biblical Studies and Student Ministries (Moody Bible Institute). He’s been working with youth in the Ottawa area for over six years and loves hanging with Junior High and High School students; helping them graduate into faithful adult followers of Jesus.
His hope and sense of mission is to help young people work through their deepest beliefs and fully experience God's unconditional love. Other interests of his include YouTube, improvisation, board games, and film.
Beth was born and raised in California. She majored in Journalism at California Polytechnic State University and took graduate Bible courses at the Institute of Biblical Studies. Her work with Campus Crusade for Christ (Power to Change) – and her ongoing quest for a decent cup of tea – brought her to Canada in 1983, where she lived for nine years in Alberta and nine years in Quebec. Her missionary work has taken her all over North America as well as Mexico, Hungary, Romania, and Ireland.
Since 2006, Beth has worked in many aspects of church administration before assuming her role in the Sunnyside office in 2018. She is committed to extending the message of the Gospel through local church ministry.
Beth loves spending time with her four children and three grandchildren. She and her husband Al enjoy making music, cooking meals, playing with their dog, and supporting one another through life's ups and downs – oh, and laughing; lots of laughing.
